Dick Ransome

Dick Ransome died on Saturday 4th January 2014 aged 70 after being ill for a while.

Dick  was born in Torver, Cumbria where he had lived all his life. He was a familiar face at rallies since the 70s with his steam roller Lakeland Princess an ex Cumbria County Council Marshall compound roller. He also spent may hours working with engines at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and was in the process of restoring an old Leyland beer wagon He was the chief engineer on the National Trust's Steam Yacht Gondola at Coniston for 20 years.

Dick was the cousin of Arthur Ransome, author of Swallows and Amazons and also related to the actress Alex Kingston. He was a close friend of Fred Dibnah having discovered years ago that they shared a passion for steam engines.
