The National Traction Engine Trust

The National Traction Engine Trust are pleased to announce the return of it’s Annual Photographic Competition.

We have decided to update things a little and change around with the format and move away from the more traditional format that we have stuck to previously.

The rules are simple and pretty informal:

The competition is split into four categories which include:

Engine Portraits: Any image featuring an engine stood on it’s own either on a rally field, village green, town centre etc.

People: An image that captures any person on or around an engine, displaying the enjoyment they are getting from what they are doing.

Road Runs: Any image featuring steam on the road. A picture that sums up what preserving our heritage with steam on the road is all about.

Working Engines: An engine working hard on a saw bench, rolling a road, heavy haulage and such like.

The prize for each of these sections is 2x Memberships of the NTET or SAC (1 per household, you can give the other to a friend). The Four winners will be selected by our panel of judges and the best image of the four will receive a place on the 2016 ‘Driving Experience Course’

Due to the geographical location of the three judges, we can only accept entries via email. The competition is open to both members and non members of the Trust.

The Judges are as follows:

Anthony Coulls (Chairman of National Traction Engine Trust)
Kevin Mills (Incoming editor of Steaming Magazine)
John Reeves (Deputy Editor of Vintage Spirit Magazine)

All entries should be sent to: with the subject line 'Photographic Competition'

All entries should include: Full name, address and age if under 16.

The competition is now open to ALL ages and the final entry will be accepted on December 31st 2015. The winners will be notified in January 2016. Condition of entry is that all submitted images may be used on the National Traction Engine Trust’s Website and Facebook Page. The judges decision is final.

NB: A number of prizes may be added for junior entrants and a separate competition may be held for Members only and include non digital images at a later date.
