The interests of Engine Owners and Engine Drivers are looked after by the Engine Owners Section of which the majority of members are engine owners and engine drivers. By pooling their combined experience and skills this section is dedicated to promoting the safe ownership and operation of steam traction engines.
A conference is held during the early part of the year where Engine Owners and Drivers and any member can air points of view, exchange information and hear invited expert speakers covering a wide range of topics from design and repair techniques, insurance matters, driver competency, legislation and much more.
For advice on all aspects of traction engines, information about the Code of Practice and dates of Engine Owners Conferences send an email to the Engine Owners Section Chairman, Bob Siddall.
The NTET acknowledges its duty of care to members and to the general public and accordingly expects members of the Trust to comply with its Health and Safety Policy, a 'pdf' copy of which may be viewed by clicking here.
A Code of Practice 'the Management of Traction Engines and similar Devices' is published by the Engine Owners Section. The COP has for a long time been widely accepted in the Insurance and Boiler Repair and Steam Engineering communities as a 'de facto' reference manual.
The fully revised COP includes practical advice on every aspect of engine ownership, operation and maintenance and is available for download in PDF form from this website. Importantly Part 4 of the COP, the Written Scheme of Examination for boilers and Part 6, detailed notes on Repairs have both been approved by the Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed). Alternatively a hard copy can be purchased from the Chairman of the Engine Owners Section, Bob Siddall at a cost of £25 or from the NTET Sales Stand.
